Former Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson is a perfect fit with the Bruins
Former Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson signed a Professional Tryout Agreement (PTO) this past week with the Boston Bruins.
Johnson, 34, is a great addition to the Bruins who can definitely make an impact on the roster should he sign for the season. Johnson played three seasons in Chicago after he was traded to the team in 2021. In 149 games, Johnson registered 70 points and 32 goals in Chicago.
Johnson previously won two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning and he has registered more than 20 goals in four seasons across his career. Johnson took on a leadership role on a rebuilding team in Chicago, helping to welcome Connor Bedard to the NHL. On a good team like Boston, he could add a nice spark to the bottom six.

Last spring, during Chicago’s locker room clean out, Johnson reflected on his time playing in the Windy City.
“I’m obviously thankful for being here. I’ve met a lot of good people,” Johnson said. “But it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned or wanted. It was way different. I met some really good people, made some really good friends that I’m going to have forever, so that’s been great.”
It didn’t seem likely he would re-sign in Chicago. Johnson came to the Blackhawks in a salary cap deal the Tampa Bay Lightning needing to clear cap space. Over the course of his three seasons with Chicago the Hawks never really had the best roster to compete.
Boston is a great fit for the undrafted forward. Hopefully, Johnson can sign with the Bruins and have a successful season. Last year he registered 31 points and 17 goals averaging over 15 minutes a night. While he might not have as big of a role in Boston, Johnson could be a great fit back on a contending team.
