The Green Bay Packers have signed Brandon McManus to a one-year deal and is expected to be kicking for them on Sunday vs the Texans

The Green Bay Packers have signed veteran Brandon McManus, who last kicked for the Jacksonville Jaguars, after watching rookie Brayden Narveson miss his fifth field goal in six games. McManus is signing a one-year deal with the Packers, and the team did not announce the move. The Packers are unlikely to keep two kickers on the roster, so Narveson’s release is likely announced on Wednesday.

The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent kicker Brandon McManus, who will replace Mason Crosby, the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, after a workout. McManus will be the Packers’ kicker starting with their Week 7 home game against the Houston Texans. Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst has struggled to replace Crosby. 33-year-old McManus will be in the NFL for the 2024 season, his 11th after nine seasons with the Denver Broncos and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the Broncos Super Bowl 50 champion in 2015 and has made 253 field goals, ranking fourth in the NFL from 2014-2023, behind only Justin Tucker, Greg Zuerlein, and Matt Prater.Washington Commanders cut McManus in June after a sexual assault lawsuit. He will be eligible to play for the Packers immediately after a league investigation found insufficient evidence to support a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. In 2023, Jordan Love threw for 32 touchdowns as the starting quarterback for the Packers, the second-most in the NFL last season. His 12 passing touchdowns in four games tied for the second-most in the NFL, with Joe Burrow tied for the second. Love set Packers postseason single-game records for passer rating (157.2) and passing yards per attempt (13.0) in Green Bay’s 48-32 victory over Dallas in the 2023 NFC Wild Card Round. However, the Packers fell short in the NFC Divisional Round to the San Francisco 49ers.

The Packers cut kicker Carlson loose after training camp, following an 81.8% field goal percentage in his rookie year. Green Bay claimed former Tennessee Titans kicker Brayden Narveson off waivers, resulting in a 70.6% field goal percentage (12-17) this season. Narveson’s percentage is the second-lowest in the NFL, behind only Zeurlein’s 66.7% figure (8-12). Both players struggled with field goals during their rookie year.
