Bruins Winger Lands in Vancouver in Free Agency

The Vancouver Canucks announced that they agreed to terms with Jake DeBrusk, who spent the first seven years of his career with the Boston Bruins.

Jake DeBrusk’s time in Boston is officially over.

The writing was on the wall for quite some time, but on Monday it became official: The Vancouver Canucks signed DeBrusk to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract, which averages $5.5 million per season.

DeBrusk struggled with consistency this season, finishing with 40 points in 80 games after a breakout campaign in 2022-23 (50 points in 64 games). However, come the postseason, DeBrusk showed up at the right time. His 11 points led all Bruins scorers in their 13 playoff games.

Despite coming back into form, negotiations on a new contract never progressed, and Bruins general manager Don Sweeney all but confirmed DeBrusk would be heading to a new team during his pre-NHL Draft media availability on Thursday.

“We had been in negotiations with Jake, haven’t had any productive talks in quite some time, but at the end of the day, that’s his prerogative to see what July 1 brings for him,” Sweeney said.

Now, DeBrusk and new Bruins signing Elias Lindholm practically swap places, with the Bruins coming to terms with the latter on Monday for as many years but over $2 million more per season.
