Latest Jaquan Brisker injury update isn’t great for the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are back from their bye week as Matt Eberflus met with reporters at Halas Hall on Monday to provide injury updates.

The Bears held a walkthrough practice on Monday, so the official Week 8 injury report will be available on Wednesday. Of note, on Monday, Eberflus mentioned that Jaquan Brisker has yet to clear concussion protocol.

Brisker did not travel with the Bears in Week 6 to London gro their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The initial thinking was that given the bye week, Brisker would be able to return without limitation ahead of the Bears’ game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Eberflus mentioned that Brisker has “a couple more steps to go” before being cleared. It’s possible, given the rules around the bye week, it’s a matter of timing and Brisker will be cleared for practice on Wednesday.

It also wasn’t an encouraging update for Kyler Gordon, who suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s victory over the Jaguars. It’s worth noting that last Monday, before the Bears started their bye week in earnest, Eberflus did note that Gordon was undergoing further imaging.

With Tyrique Stevenson participating in the walkthrough on Monday, that is a sign he will be able to play on Sunday. Ditto for long snapper Scott Daly, who suffered a knee injury in the game against the Jaguars.

Given the Commanders’ offense’s high-scoring tendency, the Bears will need their secondary to be healthy in this game. However, the Commanders are dealing with a potential injury to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels suffered a rib injury during the first half of the Commanders’ victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Daniels is undergoing more testing today, with an update expected on Wednesday or Thursday.

Daniels potentially missing the game against the Bears would take some excitement out of this contest as the game was flexed due to the performances that the Commanders’ rookie and Caleb Williams have been having this season.
