Former Bruins defenseman stepping away for personal reasons
Former Bruins defenseman Derek Forbort has left his current team for personal reasons.
The Vancouver Canucks announced the development and tweeted:
“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Erik Brännström has been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL) and that D Derek Forbort has left the team for personal reasons.”
It’s unclear how long Forbort will be away from the Canucks.
The 32-year-old defenseman was one of three Bruins — along with Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen — to sign with Vancouver as free agents. Forbort has played in all three Canucks games this season and has an assist.
Forbort played three seasons in Boston and was believed to be done for the season last year at the trading deadline. He pursued an aggressive path of rehab and returned for the postseason.
