Dodgers $71 million star predicted to join Blue Jays in blockbuster signing
The Los Angeles Dodgers will take on the New York Yankees in the World Series starting on October 25. The Dodgers need to capitalize on their great roster because many key players will be hitting free agency after the season ends.
While predicting where Dodgers free agents will land, FanSided’s Zach Pressnell predicted that Teoscar Hernández will sign with the Toronto Blue Jays.
(Jack) Flaherty, Hernandez and (Joe) Kelly could all be headed back to their former teams,” wrote Pressnell. “The Toronto Blue Jays need an outfielder to play center field and Hernandez fits their culture, payroll and winning attitude.”
Hernández began his career with the Blue Jays before being traded to the Seattle Mariners and eventually signing with the Dodgers in free agency before the 2024 season. Hernández signed a one-year, $23.5 million deal with the Dodgers, with $8.5 million deferred. He was named an All-Star and hit a career-high 33 home runs.
Spotrac projects Hernández to sign a three-year, $71 million deal in free agency. As much as the Dodgers would like him back, they may view shortstop as a bigger need and will try to spend big on Willy Adames or another premier shortstop.
Hernández was named an All-Star for the Blue Jays in 2021. A return to the club could be a full-circle moment for him as he has proven he is deserving of a long-term deal. He has also produced in the postseason, hitting .333 with two home runs against the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series.
