Dodgers Reportedly Battling With AL East Duo For $71 Million Star Free Agent

The Los Angeles Dodgers have built one of the most talented teams in Major League Baseball history. And they’re not even done yet. Los Angeles is still in the market to add one or two bats, with one of them expected to be an impact bat. The Dodgers are also likely to add a reliever or two before the 2025 season gets underway. On offense, the Dodgers have continued to be closely linked to postseason star Teoscar Hernández, who was a huge piece of Los Angeles’ 2024 World Series run. But Julia Stumbaugh of Bleacher Report cited an MLB.com report that there are at least two other teams in Hernández’s bidding war.

“The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly competing with the Dodgers to sign Hernández,” Stumbaugh wrote. “He is seeking a three-year deal worth around $22 to $24 million per season, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.” If the Dodgers and Hernández were close on a deal, they likely would have agreed on one by now. That leaves the door wide open for the Blue Jays and Red Sox to swoop in, though I feel as if the Blue Jays are much more likely to land Hernández compared to the Red Sox. Boston has a lot of talented outfielders at the big-league level, with top prospect Roman Anthony headed to Boston soon as well. The Red Sox could look to add Hernández, but it would almost certainly mean an outfielder is getting traded out of Boston.

The Blue Jays need to add an outfielder and they have the money to do so. Toronto traded Hernández a few seasons ago, so it’s unknown what the relationship is like between the two parties. The Dodgers should be seen as the favorites, but the longer he remains unsigned, the less likely he is to re-sign with the reigning World Series champions.
