Newcastle agree to sign Baran Yildiz – Report

Newcastle United may not be bringing in any first team signings this month, with Eddie Howe all but confirming there’ll be no new arrivals at senior level.

However, for those wondering what Paul Mitchell is up to, it seems the club are closing in on another ‘one for the future.’

After striking a deal for Georgia’s Vakhtang Salia – who will arrive officially in August – and working on a pre-contract agreement for Malaga winger Antonio Cordero, it looks like another teenage attacker could be about to sign.

Newcastle set to sign Yildiz

According to reports in Turkey, Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old talent Baran Yildiz.

This comes from Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, a journalist known for his transfer scoops in Turkey, who is reporting that Newcastle look set to sign the Gençlerbirligi youth player after talks.

He states the youngster will sign a four-and-a-half-year deal with Newcastle, revealing that Toon officials have been locked in talks with Gençlerbirligi this week and have now reached an agreement.

The teenage forward is yet to play at senior level for the Turkish side and currently plays for their Under-19s, where he has scored seven goals in 27 games at Academy level.

Due to the potential complexities of a work permit at this stage of his career, it is very possible that the youngster is immediately loaned back to Gençlerbirligi.

Yildiz may not be the first-team addition many were hoping for with just a few days left of the January window, but this is another low-cost, low-risk move that could work wonders in the future should he make it.

Hopefully this is the start of things to come in 2025 from an investment point of view, with young talents like Salia, Cordero and Yildiz identified as potential stars by the club’s recruitment team.
