TFG look for Thelwell replacement as behind-the-scenes change mooted at Everton

Everton are looking for a replacement for Kevin Thelwell ahead of the expiry of his contract, according to Graeme Bailey.

The Toffees’ director of football is out of contract at the end of the season with his future not yet sealed.

The Englishman has brought in a fair few decent players during his time with the Merseyside outfit but with a new manager and new owners, there may be a change made behind the scenes.

Speaking to Everton News (5 February), reporter Bailey shared his latest knowledge on Thelwell’s situation.

“He has had to navigate through some tough times and The Friedkin Group knows that,” he said.

“But they are looking at other names and I am told the feeling is that there will be a change in that department.”

Everton need to replace Kevin Thelwell at Goodison Park

While Thelwell may have brought in some decent players in the last summer transfer window, it feels like his time at Goodison Park is coming to its natural end

If Sean Dyche was kept in his role, it would be more likely for the Englishman to stay as sporting director but with the new era under Moyes and the Friedkins now well and truly underway, it feels like Everton could do with a revamp.

As Bailey mentioned, Thelwell has led Everton through a rather tough point in their history, having to tip-toe his way around the Premier League’s PSR rules can’t have been all that easy.

Fans have demanded that new faces enter the squad but Everton’s lack of moves isn’t likely down to them at all, especially after what happened last season.

Carlos Alcaraz was the only new face added to the Toffees’ ranks in the winter window but with the way things have started under Moyes, it feels like the Argentine could be the only player they needed, for now at least.

In other Everton news, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andy Goldstein have been left fuming at an Everton controversy.
