Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s Latest Comments Suggest He’s Finally Open to Joining Yankees

In 2022, Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made some strong comments about the New York Yankees, indicating that he would never join them.

“I like to play in New York. I like to kill the Yankees. I would never sign with the Yankees, not even (when I’m) dead,” said Guerrero in 2022 according to CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa.

However, his stance seems to have changed after the Blue Jays failed to extend him, likely ensuring he would see free agency.

In a recent interview with the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, he revealed that every team, including both the Yankees and Blue Jays, are still in play for him. “If I go to free agency, every team – all 30 teams – are going to have the opportunity to sit down with [me], to talk to me,” Guerrero told Heyman through an interpreter. “I’m OK with everything. It’s in the past.”

Opening his free agency to all 30 teams is an indication he is open for business and the money will talk. Additionally, it shows he may be over the beef he has with the Yankees dating back to when his father played Major League Baseball.

The sweepstakes for Guerrero will be the biggest story next winter and the Yankees will be a common landing spot linked to him. The Yankees signed Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year deal this season, leaving a hole at first base for 2026.

The Yankees saved a chunk of money by not signing Juan Soto and could allocate the funds to signing Guerrero. He is a four-time All-Star, two-time Silver Slugger and Gold Glover. He could join Aaron Judge and form a contender in the American League for years to come.
