Dan Ashworth lands new job just months after shock Man Utd departure and Newcastle payment
Former Newcastle United sporting director Dan Ashworth has reportedly landed a new position with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, just three months after his departure from Manchester United.
The 53 year old’s tenure at Manchester United lasted less than six months, commencing on July 1 after a hefty compensation package was agreed upon with the Magpies. His departure left a sour taste at St. James’ Park given the manner in which he left the club.
However, Ashworth left Old Trafford by “mutual consent” in December, amid the club’s struggles both on and off the field this season.
According to The Times, Ashworth has now taken on a consultancy role with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, where he will work as a freelancer, offering guidance “on a range of matters including high performance”. Notably, Ashworth had previously been involved with Warwickshire, joining their audit committee in 2021.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Ashworth’s five-month stint at Manchester United came at a cost of over £4m to the club, covering both the compensation package paid to Newcastle and the pay-off Ashworth received upon his departure.
