Could Bears Free Agent Darnell Mooney Be a Viable Upgrade at Receiver for Rams?
The Los Angeles Rams were in the top ten this past season in passing yards and total yards. If they were to pick up another receiver in free agency, it could push them into the top five and beyond.
One of the more intriguing free agent wide receivers that will be available this offseason is Chicago Bears wideout Darnell Mooney. He has had some disappointing stats in the past few seasons, but it might not be entirely his fault.
He finished with just over 400 yards this past season and only one touchdown, but all you have to do is look at his quarterback to find the issue. While Justin Fields is a very exciting player, he threw for just over 2500 yards this past season, while completing 61.4 percent of his passes.
Mooney showed flashes of greatness in his 2021 campaign, finishing with just over 1000 yards, and was one of the few bright spots on a 6-11 Bears team.
If Mooney went to a team like the Rams who have a veteran quarterback leading the team to one of the best passing games in the entire NFL, he could finally get his chance to shine.
Another realistic option for the Rams would be to resign Demarcus Robinson. But due to the 29-year-old’s solid season, his price tag might be a bit more pricey than someone like Mooney who isn’t as proven of a player.
Whatever the Rams end up deciding to do with the wide receiver position, they are poised to have one of the best passing attacks yet again next season, as Puka Nacua is only going to improve, and Cooper Kupp should have a more consistent year barring any injuries.
But if the team were to sign a young receiver like Mooney, it could push them over the top.
