Jon Dahl Tomasson situation becomes clearer amid Blackburn Rovers exit talk

Tomasson still looks set to depart Ewood Park, even though he remains under contract at this point.

Jon Dahl Tomasson is still likely to leave Blackburn Rovers before their clash against Stoke City on Saturday, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

It was reported by the Daily Mail yesterday that the Dane was set to depart Ewood Park, a report that came as no surprise considering Tomasson had previously revealed that he had offered to resign back in the summer.

Results aren’t going his way at the moment either and with Rovers slipping further towards the relegation zone, further questions have emerged about their manager’s future in Lancashire.

Their winter transfer window wasn’t a huge success either, with Blackburn sticking mainly to free transfers and loans despite selling Adam Wharton to Crystal Palace for a big fee during the latter stages of the window.

After the Lancashire outfit’s 2-1 loss against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, speculation has only ramped up, although the club have insisted that Tomasson remains under contract at this point.

It remains to be seen whether that’s still the case in a couple of days, although it looks unlikely at this stage.

The Lancashire Telegraph has reported that talks are set to take place between club officials and Tomasson in the next 48 hours to try and reach an agreement.

Having offered his resignation previously, it’s unclear whether he will do it again or whether Rovers will be tempted to sack the former Newcastle United man, with his position almost untenable if it isn’t already.

A “growing feeling” has emerged that he won’t take charge of another game, with a departure before their clash against Stoke now deemed likely.

Tomasson has been linked with moves to other clubs during his time at Ewood Park – but he hasn’t come anywhere near as close to leaving as he has now – with the 47-year-old seemingly on the verge of moving on.

The time has come for Jon Dahl Tomasson to leave Blackburn Rovers

This seems to be a very messy situation and it’s clear that something behind the scenes isn’t right.

With this in mind, as well as Rovers’ league position, it’s probably the right time for Tomasson to move on.

You have to wonder whether his dissatisfaction has contributed to Blackburn’s results on the pitch – because they have been poor in recent times and that’s unlike the Lancashire side under Tomasson.

Duncan McGuire’s loan move from Orlando City falling through is probably the straw that broke the camel’s back and if Tomasson isn’t fully committed, he needs to leave the club.

Whether Blackburn accept his potential resignation remains to be seen after rejecting it last time, but all parties need to move on if the manager isn’t fully focused on what’s happening on the pitch.
