Two MLB Insiders Believe Orioles Could Make Move for Ace Pitcher

The Baltimore Orioles are rumored to be interested in the Chicago White Sox’s ace and are seen as one of the favorites to land him.

The Baltimore Orioles will be in the mix for starting pitchers during the MLB offseason. Of those potential names available, Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease continues to come up in trade rumors.

For the Orioles to make a deal, they’d likely have to trade prospects to the White Sox. Chicago isn’t in a situation to compete anytime soon, which should lead them to ask for young prospects in return.

If there’s one team in baseball that has a surplus of elite prospects, it’s Baltimore. They have enough in their farm system to land any player who’s on the trade block.

The Orioles could be the perfect team for an arm like Cease. Not only is he an ace, who the team desperately needs, but he’s still only 27 years old. He fits the timeline for a team who should be World Series contenders for the better part of the next decade.

Jeff Passan of ESPN points out Baltimore when talking about Cease:

“The controllability — and cost control, with an estimated $9 million arbitration salary for the upcoming season and somewhere in the $14 to 16 million range the next year — gives the White Sox, under new general manager Chris Getz, the ability to ask for a package built around a top prospect. Teams looking for frontline starting pitching include the Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs, Atlanta Braves, Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds.”
