Boston Bruins

Rumour: Elliote Friedman on 32 Thoughts discusses the Boston Bruins goalies

It is no secret that there was a potential deal in the works regarding Linus Ullmark. With the power to reject a trade given his clause in his contract, the goaltender remains in Boston. The team that was a potential landing spot was the Los Angeles Kings, who could use an upgrade at the position. Goalie hugs will remain in Boston, at least for the remainder of this season.

The tandem remains but that doesn’t mean that Don Sweeney will look to the drawing board. During this trade deadline, Ullmark had a 16 team no trade list that drops to 15 teams this summer. Friedman does believe that Sweeney looked to teams that Ullmark could not block in a trade. This is where things get interesting.

There are still many clubs that need goaltending help, including the New Jersey Devils and even the Detroit Red Wings. The Devils have already come out and said they are going big game hunting for a goalie and Ullmark could be a prime candidate.

Swayman appears to be the goalie of the future and the days of the tandem could come to a close.

Dallas Stars

Rumour: Elliote Friedman on 32 Thoughts discusses a Chris Tanev Extension

The next set of NHL Rumours takes us to the western conference. It is going to be a gauntlet down the stretch for the playoffs and will be great hockey to watch. One team that made a key addition was the Stars, who acquired Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames. Friedman thinks that there is an extension plan for him to remain in Texas.

If there was one area the team needed to boost, it’s the blueline. The Stars have two top lines that currently rank in the top five in goals. Also, the chemistry between Logan Stankoven and Wyatt Johnston is sensational. However, the blueline is lacking and needed a boost and they got it with Tanev.

Thomas Harley can further complement Miro Heiskanen better, giving the Stars a better top pair. Tanev is a solid shut down guy that can also chip in offensively. He is a big minutes eater and brings that missing element to the club.

This team is a contender for the long haul and extending Tanev helps ensures that. Jim Nill has some big decisions to make this summer but extending their prized acquisition is a no brainer.
