Jacksonville Jaguars Ink Former Green Bay Packers Tight End To 1-Year Deal
The Jacksonville Jaguars were the class of the AFC South for years. Now, the Houston Texans are looking to take over as the dominant team. The Jaguars have been active this offseason, signing many players to try and improve the roster. While they haven’t made a big splash, sometimes the smaller signings can have the most impact. They made another fringe signing today, adding former Green Bay Packers tight end Josiah Deguara.
Deguara was a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. He struggled to find his footing in Green Bay. In the four years he spent there, he only had 436 receiving yards and two touchdowns. While he was brought in as more of a blocking tight end, he didn’t exactly excel at that, either. Part of the struggle may have been that he spent his first two years with Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback, who didn’t always gel with rookies. The team clearly was done, as they drafted Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft last year, and they easily surpassed Deguara.
Can The Jaguars Take Down The Texans?
Houston is looking to be the class of the division for the next decade. CJ Stroud has the makings of a franchise quarterback. The team has been aggressive this offseason, bringing in weapons on both sides of the ball to help their young quarterback. Jacksonville will need to show that 2023 was simply a down year. Trevor Lawrence is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and the defense looks solid as well. They simply need to play better.
The Jacksonville Jaguars hope they can tap into the potential of Josiah Deguara more than the Packers did. Can this team make it back to the postseason in 2024?
