Green Bay Packers Sky Rocket As Favorites To Sign 6’2″ Superstar

Free agency: Rams should target Justin Simmons after NFL draft

The Green Bay Packers were one of the most intriguing teams in the NFL last season.  In their first full season without Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback, they fell just three points shy of reaching the NFC Championship game.

Now entering their second season in the post-Rodgers era, the Packers are widely regarded as a Super Bowl dark-horse.  That is extremely impressive in of itself given how hard it is to win in this league.

The 2024 off-season has been spent getting younger while remaining competitive.  However, the Packers are sky rocketing as favorites to add one veteran to their defense who could make a massive impact.

The Green Bay Packers Are Being Named The Top Spot For Talented Veteran

According to Mike Jones of The Athletic:

S Justin Simmons

Randy Mueller’s Top 150 ranking: No. 22

Cut by the Broncos to help with their cap situation, Simmons is an impact player with a blend of size and speed, strong tackling and coverage skills. Coming off his second Pro Bowl season, Simmons recorded 70 tackles, three interceptions, eight pass breakups and two forced fumbles in 2023.

Potential team fits: Packers, Colts, Bengals

By adding one more playmaker, the Packers could completely overhaul the Safety position.  Generally, it would be the same thing the Packers did in 2019, when they signed both Za’Darius Smith and Preson Smith in the same off-season.

In free agency, the Packers lost both Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens to the Jaguars and Bears, respectively.  There is a good chance they will draft a Safety in the 2024 NFL Draft whether or not the sign one in free agency.

Targetting someone like Simmons could allow for a rookie Safety to learn the ropes for a few years.  Not to mention Xavier McKinney.
