Milwaukee Brewers – Baltimore Orioles: Cause Of Benches Clearing Skirmish Being Kept In-House

Benches clear in Orioles vs. Brewers game after argument

The Milwaukee Brewers ruined Baltimore Orioles fans Friday night by defeating them 11-1 during Jackson Holliday’s home debut.  Holliday not only went 0-3 with three strikeouts, but the score was 3-0 Milwaukee by the second inning, 7-1 in the fifth inning, and then 10-1 in the sixth inning.  Camden Yards faithful certainly didn’t have a lot to cheer about but they did get to see a dispute between catcher James McCann and shortstop Willy Adames.

Benches cleared after Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames and Baltimore Orioles catcher James McCann had a heated exchange.

With the score 9-1 in the sixth inning Willy Adames and James McCann got into an argument at home plate prior to Adames’ at-bat.  Adames had launched a three run home run an inning prior and two batters before the incident William Contreras had a two run homer.  The home plate umpire tried to separate them as things got heated and then the benches cleared.

Both the Brewers and Orioles are keeping the cause of this skirmish in-house.

Adames and McCann were both asked about the incident post game.  Both were reluctant to reveal the true cause of their disagreement, but it had nothing to do with Adames showboating or admiring his long ball an inning prior. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that this is something that will stay in-house.

“I’m not going to comment on it, honestly.  “It’s just one of those things we’re going to keep in-house.”

“That kind of stuff, I don’t know.  I don’t want to talk about anything like that.”

Willy Adames won “the round” against James McCann with a stare down after crossing home plate.

As mentioned this argument got started before Adames had begun his at-bat.  He then stepped into the box, worked a full count, hit an infield single, and later scored on a close play at home plate.  After successfully sliding across home plate Adames had an epic stare down of McCann.

Game two of the Brewer and Orioles will be Saturday night.  DL Hall will face his former team in this game.  On Sunday Corbin Burnes will be on the hill to face Milwaukee for the first time since being traded.
