Chicago Bears Emerging As Favorite To Land 5-Time Pro Bowl Defender
The Chicago Bears are going to be a very intriguing team to watch throughout the 2024 NFL season. With a new franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams and a much-improved roster, the Bears are hoping to push for a spot in the playoffs.
With training camp right around the corner, most offseason moves have been finalized. However, there are still some elite players left in free agency.
One of those players is veteran star cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who is still capable of being a very high impact player.
Chicago Bears Emerging As Favorite To Land Stephon Gilmore
According to the odds released by BetOnline, the Chicago Bears are currently given the second-best odds (+600) to end up signing Gilmore. The Jacksonville Jaguars currently have the best odds of making the move to bring Gilmore onboard.
Gilmore would be a big-time addition for the Bears’ defense. He would form a lethal duo with Jaylon Johnson.
During the 2023 season with the Dallas Cowboys, Gilmore put together a solid year. He played in 17 games, racking up 68 total tackles, a forced fumble, two interceptions, and 13 defended passes.
If Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears truly want to compete for a spot in the playoffs, they need to add as much talent as possible. Gilmore would be an immediate starter for the team if they were to sign him.
At 33 years old, Gilmore is entering the final stage of his NFL career. Being able to join a young, up-and-coming team like the Bears and helping them turn the franchise around would be a very good fit.
While the Bears absolutely make sense as a potential landing spot for Gilmore, there are plenty of other teams that could use a cornerback with his ability.
Obviously, the Jaguars are viewed as a potential landing spot. A few other names to monitor could be the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens.
Expect to see Gilmore sign somewhere in the near future. It’s likely that he’ll have a new job before training camp opens up. Chicago would be wise to make sure they’re the ones he signs with.
