PWHL Boston signs 2024 draft pick Daniela Pejsova

PWHL Boston signs 2024 draft pick Daniela Pejsova

PWHL Boston announced Thursday the signing of defender Daniela Pejsova to a three-year contract through the 2026-27 season.

“(I’m) definitely looking forward to putting on the green and white jerseys,” Pejsova said. “I’m going to do my best to represent Boston on and off the ice the best I can! Can’t wait to see what this new chapter will bring to me.

Boston selected Pejsova No. 7 overall in the 2024 PWHL Draft. The 21-year-old from Teplice, Czechia played six seasons with Modo HC and Lulea HF, where she won two championships with the latter.

Internationally, they won two bronze medals at the IIHF World Championship, and in 2022 was named the tournament’s Best Defender. She also represented Czechia at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Boston General Manager Danielle Marmer said in the team’s press release that the NHL’s Boston Bruins aren’t the only team in town with a Czech player to be excited about, a reference to Bruins’ forward David Pastrnak.

“Daniela is an explosive and dynamic defender with bite to her game,” Marmer said. “At only 21 years of age, she’s a natural-born competitor with a willingness to impact every time she’s on the ice. I can’t wait to see her take her game to the next level during her three years in Boston, and hopefully long after.

“The ceiling doesn’t exist for a player like Daniela,” Marmer continued.

Pejsova is the third player from Boston’s 2024 draft class to officially sign with the club, joining Sydney Bard and Hannah Bilka.

Last season, Boston finished 12-9-3, third in the league. They swept PWHL Montreal in the first round of the Walter Cup Playoffs, then lost in five games to PWHL Minnesota.
