Why is Eric Dier not in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team to face Manchester City?
Eric Dier has been left out of Ange Postecoglou’s 20-man Tottenham Hotspur squad for Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Eric Dier has been left out of Tottenham’s squad for Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester City. Ange Postecoglou and his team will be trying to spring a massive surprise against the defending champions in this crucial game for the Lilywhites as they look to break a run of three consecutive league defeats.

Following last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, the Spurs manager has made one change to his starting lineup, with Yves Bissouma replacing the injured Rodrigo Bentancur. However, Postecoglou has made a couple of alterations on the bench, with youngster Yago Santiago and Richarlison selected to the matchday squad.

The reason for Dier’s absence, according to football.london, is that he pulled up sore after exercising ahead of the game. As a result of the unavailability of the England international, Alfie Dorrington is the only centre-back named to the substitutes’ bench.

Richarlison’s comeback to the matchday squad comes as a relief to Postecoglou and Spurs following his recent groin surgery. According to football.london, the Brazilian attacker is only fit for five or ten minutes if needed.

Postecoglou revealed to Sky Sports before of the game why Dier is not in the team to face Manchester City.

“Eric was sore from training and wasn’t available.” “He’s not available for today,” the 58-year-old added. “I think Emerson and Benny [Davies] have done well for us despite the fact that it is not their natural position.” For us, it’s more about the collective, as we need to defend aggressively as a group as a unit and try to stop them.”

“It’s good to have Biss back,” he said of Yves Bissouma’s return to the club and Richarlison’s return to the matchday squad. He’s definitely been through a lot in the last several weeks with the sending off and the yellow. It’s great to have him back on the squad.

“Richy had no choice; he’s not even close to being ready.” We might only need him for five or 10 minutes, but we’ll just bring him back in.”
