Notre Dame and wide receivers coach Chansi Stucky split up just days ago, and the Irish wasted no time in replacing him. According to 247’s Matt Zenitz and Tom Loy, the Irish are set to employ Mike Brown, the Wisconsin Badgers’ wide receivers coach.
Marcus Freeman and Mike Brown were teammates for two years with the Cincinnati Bearcats under Luke Fickell. While some will scoff at this type of hire (former coworkers) because we saw so much of it during the Brian Kelly era, I believe the hire is solid, and we should see improved communication between the head coach and the receivers coach. Communication was said to be a problem at the end of Stucky’s stint in South Bend.
Brown will have his work cut out for him straight away, as the Irish need to replenish a wide receiver room that has been severely impacted by the transfer portal. Still, there is talent at South Bend right now, especially among freshmen.

Emmalyn Martin, Young Marines Sargeant at Notre Dame, has been given a national scholarship from AVC.
Sergeant Emmalyn Martin, 17, of Cold Spring, has received the American Veterans Center’s national Jimmy Trimble Scholarship. She won the award at the American Veterans Center’s 26th Annual Conference, which was held recently at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The Young Marines is a national youth organization for boys and girls between the ages of eight and high school graduation. Martin, a senior at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, joined the Northern Kentucky Young Marines in 2019 when she was 12 years old.
This award is given annually to a Young Marine who epitomizes the attributes of James “Jimmy” Trimble III, a brilliant athlete who turned down a professional baseball career to serve his nation in the Marines. He remained in combat, intent on serving his nation. He perished on Iwo Jima on March 1, 1945, at the age of 19.
“We are very proud of Sergeant Martin and her many academic and Young Marine accomplishments.” She is a natural leader who has served her unit admirably. “She has clear goals and a clear vision for her future,” stated Col William P. Davis USMC (Ret), national executive director and CEO of the Young Marines. “We are grateful to the American Veterans Center.”
