Toronto Raptors Sign Former Memphis Grizzlies Player

The Toronto Raptors are reportedly signing Jontay Porter

It was announced on Friday evening by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi that the Toronto Raptors are signing former Memphis Grizzlies big man Jontay Porter to a two-way contract. Porter played 11 games for the Grizzlies in 2021, which is his only NBA experience.

While Porter has just 11 games of NBA experience, all of which came in Memphis, he has spent a good about of time in the G-League across multiple franchises. In his post announcing the Raptors had signed Porter, Wojnarowksi wrote the following:

“Free agent F/C Jontay Porter is signing a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors, Andy Shiffman and Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tell ESPN. Porter — who spent a season with the Memphis Grizzlies — has been playing with Detroit’s G League franchise.”

In his 11 games with the Grizzlies, Porter played just 54 total minutes, scoring 22 points. At 6’11”, Porter will give the Raptors some organizational depth to their front court, which is always a good thing to have. Toronto has done a good job finding contributors from different places, including the G-League, so perhaps Porter can be one of their success stories.

On a two-way deal, Porter will likely spend a lot of time in the G-League, but will have the ability to move up and down from the G-League to the NBA as the Raptors see fit.
