Green Bay Packers Fans Brutally Turn on Jaire Alexander Ahead of Week 14 Matchup with New York Giants

The Green Bay Packers are 6-6 and control their own destiny as they continue to compete for a berth in the NFL Playoffs. Once 2-5, very few believed that the Packers would salvage enough of the season to compete. Furthermore, the team’s young players, particularly quarterback Jordan Love, were under fire from their own fans and the media as they went through their growing pains.

But then the Packers beat the Los Angeles Rams and improved to 3-5. Their optimism was short-lived as they dropped a game on the road to the Pittsburgh Steelers. At 3-6, the Packers were facing a tough stretch with games against the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs.

When cornerback Jaire Alexander was asked about his feelings regarding the team after their loss to Pittsburgh, he boldly claimed that the Packers were going to win out. At the time, no one took him seriously. However, Green Bay won each of their next three games and, based on the records of their remaining opponents, do actually stand a good chance of winning out.

Unfortunately, the Packers have not had Alexander on the field since he injured his shoulder against the Rams. The good news, though, is that the Packers’ secondary has held up in his absence. Following practice on Friday, Alexander gave an all-time interview in the locker room:

In the interview, Alexander dons some Packers themed championship belts as he talks to reporters. He is asked about his shoulder injury and if he will play on Monday night against the New York Giants. He responds, “We’ll see” to the question about playing, but then is asked if he actually has a shoulder injury.

It seems as if some reporters are questioning whether or not Alexander actually wants to play. And while he assured them that he is hurt and that he does want to play, many Packers fans took the narrative and spent their Saturday bashing the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback.

Alexander has been hurt for a great deal of the season, first with a back injury and then with his shoulder. Despite the fact that he made the Pro Bowl and was named Second Team All-Pro last year, some fans appear to not only question his commitment to the team, but want him gone:

One really has to question the idea that the Packers defense is better without Alexander. Let’s not forget that the Packers beat the Chargers because the Los Angeles wide receivers dropped two sure touchdowns when the young secondary blew their coverages.

It is frustrating that he has not been healthy this year, but no one is more frustrated than Alexander himself. Just because he doesn’t cry to reporters about his injury doesn’t mean that it isn’t affecting him.

Some may say he does not want to be in Green Bay anymore, but they are ignoring the fact that he spent the entire offseason in Green Bay to prepare for the season.

He is a Packer. He wants to be a Packer. And the team is doing well to bring him back slowly. They will need him in the NFL Playoffs.
