Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts sets NFL record

Eagles' Hurts sets NFL record for rushing TDs by a QB in a season

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts scored on a 1-yard sneak against the New York Giants on Monday for his 15th rushing touchdown of the 2023 NFL season to set an NFL record.

After scoring on Philadelphia’s second offensive snap against the Giants, the former Alabama signal-caller has more rushing touchdowns in 2023 than any NFL quarterback has had in a single season.

Hurts entered Monday’s game tied with Cam Newton for the league record. A former Auburn All-American, Newton established the QB touchdown record of 14 in 2011, his first NFL season after the Carolina Panthers selected him as the No. 1 draft pick.

Of the 10 quarterbacks who have run for at least 10 touchdowns in a single season, Newton and Hurts are the only ones who have done so more than once. In addition to 14 TD runs in 2011, Newton had 10 in 2015 and 12 in 2020. Hurts had 10 in 2021 and 13 in 2022. They are the only quarterbacks to run for more than 12 touchdowns in a season.

With 41 rushing touchdowns, Hurts ranks fifth among quarterbacks in NFL history, even though Monday’s game was his 49th career start.
