Cleveland Browns News 12/27: New Punter Signed, Dustin Hopkins Sidelined, and a Mockery of Modern Surgery
The New York Jets come to town after an absurdly short turnaround time as the Cleveland Browns look to replace their kickers, having already replaced all their pre-season quarterbacks. It just gets more absurd that the playoffs are still very much in sight…
Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
In every family, over time, there is a gradual change of focus. All parents start as children, the focus of their families. They themselves have children and slide out of the center of the picture further toward the edge. Finally, as a sort of ultimate leap, their children have children, who then become the focus of both generations.
Except in my family. Sure, I’ve had children, but no grandchildren have shown up to spoil quite yet. As a result, two generations of attention at holiday time are lavished upon a stupendously fortunate small dog, who takes advantage of it to the fullest.
Which brings me to the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks. We broke ’em all. At the start of the season, the Browns found themselves with Deshaun Watson, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Josh Dobbs, and Kellen Mond. The first two have found themselves injured and on the IR, and the latter two have been tossed away so they can engage in the usual nomadic journeys associated with second and third-tier NFL quarterbacks. Quarterbacks five and six, P.J. Walker and Joe Flacco are still around. The former is a “break glass in case of emergency” situation every Browns fan fears. The latter is a late-December story of revival and unlikely success that has caught the imagination of the NFL.
Without the improbable story of Flacco, it’s a pretty damn sad story of promise unrealized for the 2023 season. With him, well, Browns fans still have dreams of success.
Today’s stories revolve around that final pre-season quarterback exiting for the injured reserve list, and the return of P.J. Walker to the active roster. Beyond that, the Browns acknowledged that Dustin Hopkins won’t be available this week as he recovers from a hamstring injury. They also signed a punter named Matt Haack in case Corey Bojorquez can’t punt due to his quad injury, as the Browns injury situation reached levels of absurdity previously considered the the sole province of Monty Python sketches.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
