Ohio State football transfer target withdraws from portal to remain with Big Ten rival
COLUMBUS, Ohio — As Ohio State football’s NFL Draft-eligible defensive linemen continue to hint at a mass return for 2024, one potential transfer option came off the board.
Former Michigan State defensive tackle Derrick Harmon announced Wednesday he will remain with the Spartans. He follows a handful of other MSU players who have withdrawn from the portal since Jonathan Smith’s hire as head coach.
Ohio State’s Tyleik Williams and Ty Hamilton already confirmed they will play in Friday’s Cotton Bowl against Missouri. Mike Hall Jr. has been a full participant in the two viewing windows of practice reporters have been allowed at AT&T Stadium.
If all three return, in addition to rising players such as Hero Kanu, Kayden McDonald and Tywone Malone, the opportunities available for any transfer on the interior defensive line begin to dwindle.
Kanu, McDonald and Malone combined for 159 snaps this season, so if those older tackles have a change of heart, OSU will be left fairly thin without a transfer. As of now, though, the program has not taken on a transfer at any position in this cycle.
