Angels could sign Dodgers fan-favorite?
After losing Shohei Ohtani to the rival Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason, the Los Angeles Angels may be trying for a moral victory of sorts.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Angels are considering an interesting option on the free agent market — Dodgers fan-favorite Enrique Hernandez.
The do-it-all 32-year-old Hernandez played for the Dodgers from 2015-20 and was part of their World Series-winning 2020 team. Dodgers fans loved Hernandez for his good vibes and clutch playoff hitting. Though Hernandez left to sign with the Boston Red Sox in 2021, he returned to the Dodgers for the second half of last season in a July trade.
The Angels have not spent much this offseason other than on low-cost relievers and still have several holes to fill in their lineup. Hernandez, a righty hitter who plays just about every position in the field (and can do so very well) is another budget option that they are now considering.
