PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Duce Staley was back in the AFC North, this time interviewing with the Cleveland Browns for one of their openings, according to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson. Staley was in town to interview for Cleveland’s running back coach position after the team fired long-time coach Stump Mitchell. Staley spent last season with the Carolina Panthers, but was part of multiple coaching changes the team made as they look to regroup after a 2-15 season.

Prior to Carolina, Staley was with the Detroit Lions (2021-2022) as their running backs coach and assistant head coach. Before he held build Detroit, he was with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2010 to 2020, working as their special teams quality control coach (2011-2012), running backs coach (2013-2020) and assistant head coach (2018-2020). As a player, Staley won Super Bowl XL as a member of the Steelers’ backfield. He played in Pittsburgh from 2004-2006. Before his time in the Steel City, he was drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played seven seasons (1997-2003) where he had three 1,000-yard seasons.

Staley will likely be an option for a few teams during the offseason, and could be a name to watch for the Steelers. With Mike Tomlin addressing that coaching changes are expected to happen, Pittsburgh could look to fill one of their open roles with a former player who has plenty of coaching experience with some successful teams.
