Aaron Glenn Will Return to Detroit Lions in 2024

The Detroit Lions will have both coordinators return for the 2024 NFL season, as the Washington Commanders have made a decision regarding who will lead their organization. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who again was a popular candidate to be interviewed this hiring cycle, did not land any of the available positions. According to multiple reports, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn landed the position with the Commanders.

Earlier this week, it was reported that representatives from Washington flew to Detroit to have conversations with Glenn and Ben Johnson. Detroit’s talented offensive coordinator ultimately decided to turn down any opportunities to leave. With both coordinators returning, Detroit has the potential of building upon the success the team achieved in 2023, as both the offensive and defensive units improved from the season prior.

Dan Campbell indicated the team’s resiliency and having a solid coaching staff that can relate and teach players was part of the reason the team won 14 overall games in 2023. “I think what we talk about all the time, just how resilient they were. Their ability to overcome, to go into a harsh environment and win big games and not get panicked,” said Campbell. “And just to see where they really came as a group, man, as a team. “And to watch them lean on each other and how strong that bond they’ve got in there, which is important, man. Even in professional sports, it’s still – that’s a deal, that’s a real thing. And the teams that can find that, they’re usually going to have something special and that’s what we’ve got in that locker room. It is a special group.”

The Sporting News announced Thursday Lions general manager Brad Holmes was voted by “peers” as the NFL Executive of the Year and Dan Campbell the NFL Coach of the Year. “Only head coaches were allowed to vote for Coordinator of the Year and Coach of the Year. Only front-office staff and personnel decision-makers were allowed to vote for Executive of the Year.”
