The Dodgers reportedly are taking a chance on a former member of the Red Sox

One former member of the Boston Red Sox reportedly is getting a shot with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Boston took a chance on veteran fireballer Dinelson Lamet during the 2023 season but he struggled. He appeared in just one game with Boston at the big league level and allowed three earned runs in just two innings.

He was more impressive in the minors and logged a 3.72 ERA and 16-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. Lamet began the season with the Colorado Rockies and had an 11.57 ERA in 16 total appearances before being released and joining Boston.

Lamet was designated for assignment by the Red Sox and opted for free agency. He now reportedly signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers with an invite to Spring Training, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.

“Dinelson Lamet to Dodgers,” Heyman said. “Minors deal with (Major League Baseball) spring invite.”

Lamet is an intriguing option because he has a fastball that approaches 100 miles per hour and he was stellar in 2020 with the San Diego Padres. The big righty logged a 2.09 ERA and 93-to-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 12 starts.

Los Angeles has been extremely busy this offseason and now has even more depth with big-league upside. He likely will spend the majority of his time in the minor leagues, but it’s unclear what his role will be.

Lamet has seen time both as a starter and as a reliever throughout his six-year big league career. Hopefully, he can get back on track with Los Angeles and impress in whatever role it puts him in.
