Milwaukee Brewers Acquire 3 Players In Blockbuster Trade Proposal With The Texas Rangers

The Milwaukee Brewers are no strangers to trading their star players before they hit free agency.  Josh Hader was dealt in 2022 and Corbin Burnes a few weeks ago.  This leaves Willy Adames, who is in his final year of team control, and Devin Williams, who has two years left, as the next possible trade candidates.

When Josh Hader was traded, with a year and half of team control left, the Brewers received two prospects, a few months of reliever Taylor Rogers, and Dinelson Lamet.  Lamet ended up being designated for assignment immediately after the trade went through.

On the other hand the Burnes package from the Orioles netted them left-handed pitcher DL Hall, infielder Joey Ortiz, and the 34th overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft.  Hall and Ortiz are both under team control until 2030 and this trade allows Milwaukee to control their own destiny with the third future player involved in the trade being an additional high draft pick.

At this time Devin Williams has two years of control remaining.  If he were to be traded in the near future, what kind of haul could the Brewers get for him?  Here we explore one trade proposal with the Texas Rangers.

Milwaukee Brewers-Texas Rangers trade proposal centered around Devin Williams.

Devin Williams: The Answer To Yankees' Pitching Woes?

Rangers receive: RHP Devin Williams

Brewers receive: RHP Brock Porter (4), RHP Marc Church (19), RHP Emiliano Teodo (22)

In this proposed deal the Brewers get three quality prospect arms in which Porter and Teodo are starters and Church is a reliever.  All three have not yet made their MLB debut but Church was added to the Rangers 40-man roster this off-season.

All of these arms have exceptionally great strikeout rates.  Porter, a 4th round draft pick in 2022, fanned 95 batters over 69 innings pitched last year.  Church has had K:9s of 16.13, 14.33, and 11.47 throughout his first three minor league seasons.  Lastly Teodo, who signed as an international free agent when he was 18, struck out 115 over 84 innings in 2022 and 84 over 64 innings in 2023.

Teodo has the most electric arm out of this group.  As a starting pitcher he sits consistently 95-98 MPH and hes topped out at 103 MPH.  Porter is not far behind him velocity wise as he possesses the ability to maintain 94-97 MPH throughout his starts.  Similarly Chuch has a 65 grade fastball that also sits 94-97 MPH.

This trade would give the Rangers a lock down closer for the next two years.  Spending money has been an issue for Texas this off-season due to the potential fallout of a TV deal, but Williams signed a two year deal earlier that will give him $7 million in 2024 and there is a $10.5 million club option for 2025.

On the other hand this deal helps Milwaukee restock their farm system with talented pitchers.  Even though Church is the only MLB ready player, the upside potential with Porter and Teodo could pay dividends down the road.
