Brian Windhorst Says Lakers Will Likely Pursue East Star
When the Los Angeles Lakers refused to commit to any trades last week, fans of the team were told that the summer could be very eventful.
That is because General Manager Rob Pelinka is intent on adding superstar talent to go alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the offseason.
But in a league full of amazing players, which route will Pelinka take?
Speaking to ESPN Cleveland, Brian Windhorst said that the Lakers will definitely pursue Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell.
This is just what the Lakers do whenever someone of Mitchell’s caliber has a chance of being wooed away.
“Every star player who becomes available, the Lakers go after,” he stated.
Windhorst added that the Cavaliers knew this was coming and anticipated this summer being a big one for them.
When Mitchell’s contract expires, he will have to decide if he wants to ink a new deal with Cleveland or head to a number of destinations.
The Lakers have made it a habit to try and sign any big-name talent that becomes available, even though they don’t always get who they want and sometimes it doesn’t work out.
For example, the Atlanta Hawks recently didn’t budge on letting go of Dejounte Murray and the blockbuster trade for Russell Westbrook a few seasons ago ultimately didn’t end up being a smart move.
The Lakers are attracted to major stars and many major stars are attracted to them.
But will Mitchell call Los Angeles home after this summer?
Rumors also state that he will be enticed by the New York Knicks as well, which is a team that has long been linked to him.
Of course, he might end up remaining in Cleveland, especially because that team has been doing so well lately.
The Lakers will try their hardest to secure Mitchell but that doesn’t mean he will pack his bags and head out west.
