Baltimore Orioles Came Close to Selling Stadium Naming Rights
Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been the home for the Baltimore Orioles since 1992. Before that, they called Memorial Stadium home. Things might be changing at Camden Yards, and that all stems from the lease that was recently signed to keep the team in Baltimore for the near future.
Danielle Allentuck and Hallie Miller of the Baltimore Banner are reporting that the team came close to selling the naming rights to T. Rowe Price.
Due to the recent news of Orioles chairman and CEO John Angelos selling the team to a new ownership group, the naming rights deal has been put on hold.
It’s not known if the new owners will move forward with the new naming rights of the stadium. If John Angelos wasn’t selling the team, the new name of Oriole Park at Camden Yards would’ve been named T. Rowe Price Park at Camden Yards. The naming rights deal would have been for 10 years.
Another stipulation of the new lease also includes that any name would have to be approved by the Maryland Stadium Authority. The unexpected news of the Orioles being sold threw a wrench into any plans moving forward with T. Rowe Price.
Any new name that Oriole Park at Camden Yards gets isn’t going to sit well with most fans of the team. Fans might never embrace the new name of the stadium due to how synonymous it is with the city and the team.
If in fact T. Rowe Price gets the naming rights, it will take time to adjust.
