Darren Bent has given his verdict on whether or not Kieran McKenna would leave Ipswich Town to become the new Sunderland manager.

Sunderland are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Michael Beale.

So, what has Darren Bent said about Kieran McKenna and Sunderland? Let’s take a look.

Sunderland on hunt for Michael Beale replacement

Well, Sunderland are looking for a new manager yet again this season. The Black Cats, who were once playing in the Premier League, are aiming to win promotion from the Championship.

Sunderland sacked Tony Mowbray in December, and this week, they decided to get rid of his replacement Michael Beale.

The Black Cats have installed Mike Dodds as interim manager until the end of the season, and HITC understands that they are keen on hiring young Englishman Will Still from Stade de Reims in the summer of 2024.

Darren Bent’s verdict on Kieran McKenna to Sunderland

Former Sunderland striker Darren Bent has been speaking about the Sunderland managerial situation on talkSPORT.

Bent has suggested former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper as a potential candidate for the role at the Stadium of Light, but the ex-Ipswich Town striker does not think that Kieran McKenna will take over at Sunderland anytime soon.

The talkSPORT pundit, though, has noted that Sunderland are a bigger club than Ipswich. McKenna is now in charge of the Tractor Boys.

When asked about McKenna going to Sunderland, Bent said on talkSPORT (4:38 pm, February 19, 2024): “No.”

Bent was then asked who the bigger club is – Sunderland or Ipswich. The pundit responded: “Sunderland. Probably Sunderland.”

While Sunderland are a massive club whose ultimate aim is to get back into the Premier League, I do not see Kieran McKenna being even remotely interested in leaving Ipswich Town right now.

Ipswich are in the running for automatic promotion to the Premier League. While the Tractor Boys have now slipped out of the Championship top two, they are still only three points behind second-placed Leeds United, who have played a game more
