Rocco Baldelli points out one thing still missing from Twins roster
The Twins manager know exactly what move he hopes the front office makes before Opening Day.
We’re just under a month away from Opening Day, but the Minnesota Twins still have a handful of important questions that need to be answered this spring.
Replacing Sonny Gray with a frontline starter on the market seems like a ship that has sailed, as Minnesota flipped Jorge Polanco for a back-end of the rotation guy and a solid middle reliever. That was the currency we all though would get spent on replacing Gray, but instead it was a salary dump that netted a replacement for Kenta Maeda instead.
To be fair, the Twins got back Gabriel Gonzalez, a Top 100 prospect who could either develop into a future star outfielder for Minnesota or be used later in the year to trade for solid starting pitching. The move also freed up money to sign Carlos Santana, who despite showing up last to Fort Myers is going to be an important and key part of the lineup.
So much focus was spent on what the Twins would do to add pitching depth that the conversation about finding some right handed hitting outfield help got lost in the noise. It’s something that manger Rocco Baldelli is hoping everyone remembers about before it’s too late.

Rocco gave some insight on where things stand with the roster as Spring Training begins, and noted that he’d like to see one specific addition made before Opening Day rolls around.
“We have some guys that we think are definitely good players and capable out there,” Baldelli said. “But we could add a right handed-hitting outfielder to complement those guys. That’s filling out the group.”
It’s not a new problem, as many thought the Twins would find right handed hitting outfield help at the trade deadline last year. One of the names they were circling, Tommy Pham, as popped back up in rumors. Former Braves and Red Sox slugger Adam Duvall is also a popular name being tossed around, while a reunion with Michael A. Taylor hasn’t been ruled out either.
The Twins might not have to look far to find some right handed help, though. Austin Martin is expected to make a solid case for a 26-man roster spot this spring, with his role being centerfield depth behind Byron Buxton.
Minnesota needs help on the corners, though, as Matt Wallner and Max Kepler don’t have much to platoon with. That’s where Pham and Duvall come into play, and the market might be settling low enough for the Twins to make one more small splash.
Rocco has made his feelings known, though, and we’ll see if the front office hears his request and finds a way to honor it
