‘A delight to watch’… Nottingham Forest legend thinks £17m player can guide Nuno to safety
Nottingham Forest legend Garry Birtles has heaped praise on Taiwo Awoniyi for his goal against West Ham last weekend.
The popular figure has been speaking with the Forest Focus podcast.
So, what did Birtles have to say about Forest striker Awoniyi? Let’s take a closer look…
What Garry Birtles said about Nottingham Forest star Taiwo Awoniyi
Well, it would appear as though Birtles was very impressed with the 26-year-old during the game with West Ham.
Forest striker Awoniyi scored his sixth goal of 2023/24 when he slid the ball under Alphonse Areola on the stroke of half-time.
Birtles is seemingly a big fan of the player and he’s raved about his efforts at the weekend when he notched at the City Ground.
He told the Forest Focus podcast: “It’s about composure, it’s about touch, don’t panic when it comes your way and it’s exactly what you do as a striker and it’s just a delight to watch.
“I was a long way away but you could just see from behind the quality of the goal. You know watching them that nine times out of time he will make those count.
“It was a striker’s finish, it’s as simple as that. If we can keep players like him fit, Forest can pull away from this without a doubt.”
Awoniyi staying fit is integral to Reds fortunes
When he was substituted at the City Ground on Saturday some fans were nervous – although Awoniyi said he was fine afterwards.
Awoniyi is massively important to Forest and their fortunes this season as the Reds look to stay in the Premier League again.
Losing him for two months was detrimental, although take nothing away from Chris Wood, he did step up.
Awoniyi has been fantastic for Forest since he signed for the club from Union Berlin for £17 million in the summer of 2022.
He’s a firm fan favourite and hopefully, he can continue firing for Forest this season.
