Stoke City could face a battle to keep hold of the former Holland youth international at the end of this season.

Burger, 23, joined the Championship outfit last August on a four-year deal.

However, according to TEAMtalk, he is ‘likely’ to be the subject of offers from elsewhere in the next transfer window, especially if his side are relegated to League One.

Stoke will have to significantly balance the books if they drop into the third tier. They dropped into the drop zone last Saturday after their 2-1 away loss at Cardiff City and pressure is mounting on Steven Schumacher.

Burger was signed by the Potters to bolster their midfield department and he has made a positive impression since his switch to England.

He has made 31 appearances in all competitions so far in this campaign and has chipped in with three goals.

The Dutchman played 16 times for Feyenoord as a youngster, as well as having loan spells away from the Eredivisie giants at Excelsior and Sparta Rotterdam to gain experience.

FC Basel then snapped him up on a permanent basis in 2021 and he spent three years in Switzerland, playing 75 games and scoring six goals.

Stoke are inside the bottom three on goal difference behind QPR and have 12 matches left to save themselves. They are back in action this Saturday with a home clash against Middlesbrough as they look to pick up a valuable three points.

The Potters then face tricky back-to-back away trips to promotion chasing Leeds United and Preston North End.
