Attention is already turning to the summer transfer window

Hull City have been linked with a summer move for Manchester United’s highly-rated defender Will Fish, who is currently on loan at Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

City, along with a host of other clubs along with Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough have all been credited with making a move for the Manchester-born youngster at the end of the current campaign.

The 21-year-old centre-back came through the ranks at United and made his Premier League debut in a 2-1 win away at Wolves almost two years ago before going on loan to Stockport County and then Hibernian, where he’s played more than 50 times for the Easter Road club, while representing England at Under-17, 18 and 19 levels.

Both Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick know Fish well from their respective spells at Old Trafford, and two of the clubs eyeing a move, along with City, Sunderland, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, according to HITC. Since moving to Edinburgh, Fish has become a regular playing in both the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League, which saw the Hibees knocked out by Premier League side Aston Villa.

Speaking earlier in the campaign, Easter Road head coach Nick Montgomery, the former Sheffield United midfielder, expressed his desire to keep the defender long-term, and not just for the duration of his season-long loan from United.

“I would love to keep Will, not just this season but on a permanent deal,” he told the Edinburgh News. “The kid is still just 20 years old, and he’s growing every week. I think his performances belie his age. He plays like a seasoned professional. To watch him in training every day and see the effort he puts into games, he’s really low maintenance. I think he’s got a massive future ahead of him.”
