Hull City defender chasing return to action against PNE after 2022 transfer saga

Hull City defender chasing return to action against PNE after 2022 transfer saga

Hull City defender Cyrus Christie is pushing for a recall ahead of facing Preston North End this weekend.

Christie is a name which may ring a few bells with PNE supporters.

The right back was heavily linked with a move to North End back in the summer of 2022.

Reports suggested that Christie was very close to joining PNE but no deal materialised, paving the way for his move to Hull City instead.

Christie then shared his bemusement, admitting that he never even spoke to North End, never mind came close to signing.

The Irishman has started 12 Championship games this season but is now fighting to feature against PNE this weekend.

Christie hasn’t played for Hull since the 3-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on New Year’s Day.

We are coming up to two months since Christie last kicked a ball in the Championship having struggled with an Achilles problem.

However, boss Liam Rosenior has now told the Hull Daily Mail that Christie is now back from injury and is fit to play.

Rosenior still suggested that it’s ‘so hard’ to pick Christie because he just has so many options in the Hull squad right now.

That means Christie is in contention to face PNE but whether he starts remains to be seen.

“Cyrus, it’s just selection, it’s just so hard. He’s come back. He’s training really, really well and I will change the bench, I will change the team because I’ve got a really strong squad,” said Rosenior.

PNE have a red-hot left-sided wide man right now with Liam Millar in superb form.

The Canadian has terrorised many full backs this season and Rosenior may be hesitant to throw Christie straight back in against Millar.

Christie didn’t feature when the two sides met at Deepdale last season and after those strange rumours about a move to North End, he could come up against Ryan Lowe’s side after all.
