The Minnesota Twins have announced that former leadoff hitter and fan favorite Denard Span will be part of a big group of former players serving as analysts on TV broadcasts this season.

According to reports, the Minnesota Twins have added former fan favorite and leadoff hitter Denard Span to its group of television analysts for 2024.

Per Aaron Gleeman of ‘The Athletic’ on social media:

Twins announced that Denard Span is joining the group of TV analysts for Bally Sports North, along with Justin Morneau, Roy Smalley, LaTroy Hawkins, Glen Perkins, and Trevor Plouffe.

They’ll work with new TV play-by-play voice Cory Provus.

The 40-year-old Span was a first-round pick of the Twins back in the 2002 MLB Draft out of the Florida high school ranks.

He eventually ended up making his major league debut with the Twins in 2008 and enjoyed an 11-year with the Twins, Washington Nationals, San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners.

He played five years for Minnesota, hitting .284 in a Twins’ uniform. He led the league in triples back in 2009 (10) and also stole 26 bases back in 2010.

Lifetime, he was a .281 hitter who popped 71 homers and drove in 490. He also stole 185 bases. Span finished sixth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting back in 2008 and earned MVP votes in 2014 with Washington.

As for the team that Span will be watching as part of those broadcasts, the Twins figure to be good again in 2024. After winning the AL Central in 2023, they’ll get back a healthy Royce Lewis, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa.

However, they do have questions on the pitching front after seeing Sonny Gray exit in free agency.
