Hull City facing nervous wait on injuries ahead of Leicester City clash

The Tigers have just 10 games remaining of the regular Championship season starting with the visit of the Foxes

Hull City have doubts surrounding a couple of members of their first team squad going into Saturday’s mouth-watering meeting with league leaders Leicester City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday in their final counter before the extended international break.

Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City left a couple of Liam Rosenior’s players nursing knocks after a tough, physical encounter which saw the Tigers pegged back late on by Lukas Jutkiewicz’s thumping header and forced to settle for a point.

Both Alfie Jones and Jaden Philogene collected bumps during the game, but head coach Rosenior would not divulge the identity of those players facing a race against time to be involved in front of a near sell-out at the MKM Stadium and hopes the players will be fine to feature.

One player who will certainly be available is striker Aaron Connolly after he came through a 90-minute display for City’s Under-21s on Tuesday night in a 3-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town, which also saw Xavier Simons line-up for the Cod Army.

Connolly was left out of the weekend visit to Preston last Saturday having been suffering from a dead leg but his return to fitness on midweek will see him involved on Saturday in a timely boost to Rosenior’s attacking options.

“We’ve got a couple of knocks,” the Tigers boss told Hull Live. “I wouldn’t say doubts, but we have to assess them tomorrow (Friday). I don’t want to say who it is because I don’t want to give away anything, but we’ve got a couple of players that are nursing little knocks and niggles, but we’ll make a decision tomorrow (Friday) about how we go about it.

Connolly has found the going difficult since being injured in a clash with Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn back in January which saw him sidelined with concussion and a shoulder injury, before picking up the dead leg against West Brom, but Rosenior says setbacks are part and parcel of life.

“We all go through difficult periods. His injury was really unfortunate. I feel for him because he’s gone through a period where he’s not had that run of games that every striker wants or needs through no fault of his own. The Norwich goalkeeper took his head off and we know what happened there. Look, the good thing is he’s he’s on the mend. He’s looking fitter, he looked sharp in training today and he’s another weapon that we can use at the right time.”
