The San Francisco 49ers have extended the contract of right tackle Colton McKivitz for an additional year
The San Francisco 49ers have inked a one-year extension with right tackle Colton McKivitz, ensuring his presence on the team until the 2025 season.
McKivitz’s representatives at AMDG Sports disclosed on Friday that the extension for 2025 amounts to $7 million, with approximately $4.5 million guaranteed. He is currently entering the final season of a two-year, $4.56 million deal signed last offseason.
Originally drafted by the Niners in the fifth round of 2020, McKivitz saw action in five games across his first three seasons before claiming the starting role last season following Mike McGlinchey’s departure in free agency.
Throughout the previous season, the 27-year-old started all 17 games, logging an impressive 98% of San Francisco’s offensive snaps and maintaining a consistent presence during three postseason matchups.
Recognized by his fellow linemen, McKivitz was awarded the Bobb McKittrick Award, an annual honor bestowed upon the Niners’ offensive lineman embodying courage, intensity, and sacrifice—a testament to his contributions to the field.
Despite allowing 47 pressures last season, a figure that ranked tied for eighth most among all tackles in the NFL per Pro Football Focus, McKivitz’s reliability was evident. He conceded 12 pressures in three playoff games, underscoring the team’s need to fortify pass protection, particularly for quarterback Brock Purdy.
With Jon Feliciano, who shared right guard duties with Spencer Burford, poised to hit unrestricted free agency next week, the Niners aim to bolster their offensive line. McKivitz’s versatility, having played some guard during his career, provides valuable flexibility for San Francisco, especially if they choose to pursue a right tackle in the upcoming draft.
