C.J. Henderson Joins Texans After Successful Visit, Secures One Year Deal Worth $3.25 Million

BREAKING: Texans sign C.J. Henderson - Battle Red Blog

Free agent cornerback C.J. Henderson’s visit to Houston culminated in a lucrative signing with the Texans, marking a significant addition to their defensive roster.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Henderson has agreed to terms with the Texans on a one-year contract with a maximum value of $3.25 million.

This development underscores the Texans’ proactive approach to fortifying their defensive backfield ahead of the upcoming season.

The acquisition of Henderson, coupled with the Texan’s earlier signing of cornerback Jeff Okudah on March 11, suggests a shifting landscape within the team’s cornerback rotation.

It is anticipated that Steven Nelson, a key starter for the Texans last season, may find his tenure with the team drawing to a close as a result of these recent moves.

During the previous NFL season, Henderson showcased his skills in 12 games, securing seven starts for the Panthers.

His contributions included 39 total tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, and two passes defensed, demonstrating his versatility and impact on the field.

Originally selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the ninth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Henderson’s journey led him to the Panthers following a trade in September 2021.

His arrival in Houston further bolsters a defensive unit that is poised to make strides in the upcoming season.

In his career spanning 49 total games with 32 starts, Henderson has amassed an impressive stat line, tallying 16 passes defensed along with three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Despite facing setbacks such as a groin injury that sidelined him during his rookie campaign, Henderson has proven to be a resilient and impactful player in the league.
