Leeds want 28-year-old in permanent deal from Premier League club, same agent as Garry Monk
With promotion on the horizon, Leeds United will be planning to prepare for a return to the Premier League and that means making a number of signings that improve Daniel Farke’s excellent squad.
There are a few holes in what is a brilliant squad at Championship level. In attack, Leeds are well-stocked – but may need a new winger if the club decided not to go in for Jaidon Anthony on a permanent basis.
It is likely that Anthony will return to Bournemouth, so a winger will be required. Another midfielder is also likely to be needed, given Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu are currently operating in the back line.
Leeds tried to sign a no.10 last summer – bidding for Matt O’Riley, and Nadiem Amiri travelling over to Leeds. But both deals fell through. A new left-back is likely to be on the agenda too, at Elland Road.
Leeds want to sign Roberts on a permanent deal this summer
Maybe, right-back as well. Gray is expected to move into midfield at some point as he gets better and better. Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram will both see their deals end in June – and are likely to depart.
That is despite Byram saying he would love to stay put – and Farke hinting at a new deal for Shackleton. Connor Roberts is only on loan from Burnley – and it is up in the air as to whether he will stay at Leeds.
Indeed, the Wales star has made it clear he would like to sign on permanently – even if he would liked to have started more than the two games he has done so, so far. Now, TeamTalk offer an update on him.
They say that Leeds are in fact, keen to bring in Roberts on a permanent basis beyond the end of the season. It is not known much Burnley want for him – who is repsented by the same agent as Garry Monk.
Why signing Roberts is an absolute no-brainer for Leeds United
In football, it is rare you find a top-quality professional that is happy with starting here and there – but not every match. Roberts would obviously rather start every match for The Whites. He’d be wrong not to.
Leeds will need a right-back in the summer. But who will want to join, when Leeds continue to start Gray? The club need to find themselves a right-back that is happy and aware he will not be our first choice.
Roberts is exactly that. A consummate professional, capable of providing qualiuty in the Premier League. But one that that has the maturity, experience and intelligence to know he won’t start every match.
And, to be okay with that. Roberts is unlikely to cost a fortune and Leeds can do a lot worse then signing the Wales man, who is clearly a well-liked individual within the growing Welsh commune Leeds boast.
