Washington Commanders WR Curtis Samuel: Bounce-Back Season Coming? - Sports Illustrated Washington Football News, Analysis and More

The Washington Commanders made the headlines for some splash free agent signings this offseason, as new head coach, Dan Quinn, reunited with former Dallas Cowboys, Tyler Biadasz, Dorance Armstrong and Dante Fowler Jr..

The now Josh Harris-owned franchise also bolstered their linebacking corps with future hall of famer, Bobby Wagner, and added Carolina Panthers standout, Frankie Luvu & Jeremy Chinn.

Even the other offensive skill positions received some additions, with veterans, Zach Ertz and Austin Ekeler coming in at tight end and running back respectively.

However, the one position the team had failed to add to was wide receiver, where Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson stand pat as the team’s #1 and #2 receiver. Yet, after the departure of Curtis Samuel to the Buffalo Bills, the Commanders were in need of bolstering at receiver, with very little starting quality beyond McLaurin and Dotson.

And so, it seems that, at last, the Washington Commanders have decided to add a free agent wideout to compete to be the #3 on their offense, per Tom Pelissero.

After a promising rookie season, Jahan Dotson failed to progress much beyond what he produced in his first year in the NFL. He managed only 518 yards, 5 fewer than in 2022, where he played 5 fewer games.

Terry McLaurin had another 1000+ receiving year, however, he did not seem nearly as dominant and impressive as in years past. Getting another solid pair of hands in Zaccheaus, who had 2 good seasons as the #3 at the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 and 2022, will surely only benefit the Commanders as they try to optimize their roster for the almost certain incoming rookie quarterback.
