Finally, it’s official: the Yankees have traded cash for the White Sox’s ace pitcher. However…

Yankees Quietly Made A Trade Over The Weekend

Chicago White Sox trade Jake Cousins to New York Yankees - On Tap ...

The New York Yankees are one of the hottest teams in baseball.

They swept the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in the four-game series they played from Thursday through Sunday.

If you have followed baseball since 2015, you probably know the Astros are the Yankees’ nemesis.

For a weekend, however, the Yanks were able to conquer their demons and assert their dominance.

Organizationally speaking, the Yanks have been active in recent weeks with minor trades and acquisitions.

They haven’t made any big moves since signing Marcus Stroman in January, but they have managed to improve the quality of their team nonetheless, particularly their depth.

On Sunday, New York announced a minor trade.

“The Yankees have acquired RHP Jake Cousins from the White Sox in exchange for cash considerations,” MLB insider Mark Feinsand tweeted.

They actually didn’t lose anything of note: just cash, and added a potentially useful right-handed reliever.

Cousins is 29 years old and has a 3.08 career ERA in 52.2 MLB innings.

Last year, he posted a 4.82 ERA in 9.1 frames with the Milwaukee Brewers, and also accumulated a 6.35 ERA between Triple-A Nashville, the ACL Brewers, and Triple-A Sugar Land (with the Houston Astros).

He was promising in the spring, with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings.

Cousins is, stuff-wise, the prototypical Yankees reliever: he relies on a power sinker and a slider, much like Clay Holmes, Jonathan Loaisiga, and many others in New York’s bullpen.

Can the Yankees get him to consistently throw strikes and fool MLB hitters?

Only time will tell, but there is no downside to making the move.
