Blazers Veteran Makes Concerning Statement About His Future With Team

HOUSTON, TEXAS - JANUARY 24: Anfernee Simons #1 of the Portland Trail Blazers in action against the Houston Rockets during the first half at Toyota Center on January 24, 2024 in Houston, Texas.

The Portland Trail Blazers have been through the wringer over the past several years.

Despite having players like Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons for much of the past decade, the team hasn’t been able to put things together and win a meaningful number of games.

There was a long stretch of playoff appearances for this team, but they haven’t made it to the NBA Finals since the 1991-1992 season.

Plus, Lillard has moved on from this team, losing a star player because things haven’t gone according to plan.

It appears that frustrations are mounting within the organization, as indicated by a recent quote from Simons provided by Sean Highkin via NBA Central.

“We don’t want to have another year like this. My sixth year is done now, going into year seven; I want to have this opportunity to win,” Simons said.

Simons is clearly frustrated with this organization and their lack of winning over the past several years.

Without a major acquisition in free agency or the draft, the Trail Blazers could go back to their losing ways in the 2024-2025 season, which would be a sub-optimal result in Simons’ eyes.

Something has to change for this team moving forward, whether it’s the head coach, GM, or a complete overhaul of the roster.

Players don’t like to sit around and wait for things to change, especially in today’s NBA.

If Simons continues to be frustrated, he could request a trade from the organization, hoping to find better luck and more success on a different team.
