Maple Leafs sign Russian winger Nikita Grebyonkin to entry-level contract
With as little as one game possibly remaining in their season, the Leafs have made one more signing.
Dan Milstein, agent for Russian draft pick Nikita Grebyonkin, announced Monday the right winger had signed a three-year entry level deal with Toronto “which would start immediately.”
Grebyonkin was a 2022 fifth-round draft pick of the Leafs who went on to have a role with Kontinental Hockey League champion Metallurg Magnitogorsk in their run to the Gagarin Cup last week.
Reports from Russia last week said his KHL deal had been terminated ahead of an imminent move to the Leafs.
Grebyonkin will average $950,000 US on the ELC deal. He totalled 47 points in 90 regular season and playoff games this year, though played less for Metallurg as the playoffs progressed.
Grebyonkin is 6-foot-1, 191 pounds from Serov, Russia, a mining town in the Ural mountains.
