Jets announce the signings of 17 undrafted free agents

NCAA Football: CFP National Championship-Washington at Michigan

The Jets are conducting their rookie minicamp this weekend at the team facility in Florham Park. In addition to the seven players the team drafted last weekend, the team has announced the signings of 17 undrafted free agents. These players will participate in the minicamp and then compete for roster spots in training camp and the preseason this summer.

Although the minicamp is mostly about giving rookies an introduction to the NFL, some veteran players will be participating. Along with Draft picks, teams use this weekend to give players tryouts. Among those trying out are playing with NFL experience.

Melifonwu is a safety. He was a second round pick of the Raiders in 2017, a year in which the Jets drafted a pair of safeties with their top two picks. Melifonwu lasted less than two seasons with the Raiders before being waived. His last NFL regular season game was in 2018, although he has spent time on rosters during the offseason and played in lower level leagues such as the USFL in the time since.
